Albany,NY : Police chase ends in fiery crash on June, Sunday 4th 2017
A police chase in New Jersey left several cops hurt and at least one other person seriously injured when a suspect’s car slammed into a telephone pole and burst into flames, authorities said.
Cops were chasing the car on Tonnelle Avenue in Jersey City late Sunday, when the vehicle suddenly hit the pole near Carlton Avenue and exploded into a ball of fire, witnesses said. A burst of gunfire erupted as cops surrounded the burning vehicle in front of an Econo Lodge, NJ.com reported.
“There were a lot of bullets, it was like a scene from a movie,” a truck driver told the site.
Video taken by a witness outside the hotel shows a chaotic scene after the crash, with police sirens blaring as the car burns uncontrollably just outside the hotel.
Several officers were taken to Jersey City Medical Center with minor injuries. At least one suspect was seriously burned in the wreck. It’s unclear if the suspect fired at police or if anyone was shot, NJ.com reports.
One witness said he saw two police cruisers slam into a telephone pole outside the hotel before emergency responders pulled someone from a burning car.
It wasn’t immediately clear what led to the pursuit. And it wasn’t known if any arrests were made, NBC New York reports.
