Wichita, KS : One person has died and another was critically injured in a cras on Wednesday, January, 17th 2018

One person has died and another was critically injured in a crash east of Derby Wednesday night, authorities said.

Joshua Howard, 26, was driving east on 79th Street South near 127th when he crossed the center line, entered the opposite lane of travel, hit a culvert, a mailbox and then a tree, according to a report from the Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Office.

Howard and his passenger, 25-year-old Austin Young, were pinned in the wreckage for a while before being extricated. Howard was pronounced dead shortly before 10:30 p.m. as he was being transported to a Wichita hospital.

Young remained in critical condition at Wesley Medical Center Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman for the hospital said.
