CASS COUNTY, MI : 1 dead in Cass County crash on Thursday, 21st August 2024

Police have identified the driver who died in a crash late Thursday morning in Cass County as 33-year-old Amanda Kay Huffman of Niles.

The crash happened just before noon on Garrett Road just north of M-62 Highway in Silver Creek Township.

Police say the vehicle was heading south on Garrett when it crossed the centerline and went off the road. The vehicle went down a ditch and rolled before coming to a rest in a field.

Huffman was initially trapped under the vehicle. She was taken to the hospital, where she later died.

The passenger of the vehicle, a 33-year-old Niles man, was taken to the hospital but refused medical treatment.

The crash remains under investigation, but police say seat belts were not worn.
