Kankakee,IL : Motorcycle crash kills Bradley man on September, Saturday 2nd 2017

A Bradley man died Saturday from injuries he sustained in a motorcycle crash that occurred a day earlier in Kankakee.

Jake Popovich, 29, was pronounced dead at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's Office. His death, which was ruled accidental, resulted from multiple injuries caused by a motorcycle striking a fixed object.

The car-versus-motorcycle wreck occurred about 11:20 p.m. near the intersection of West Station Street and South Fifth Avenue. Police said Popovich tried passing a car on its left-hand side while it was turning left.

After swiping alongside the car, Popovich ran into a fire hydrant. He reportedly was not wearing a helmet. Popovich was then airlifted to Loyola, where he died.

According to the Illinois Department of Transportation's fatal crash data, nine people have died this year in crashes in Kankakee County.
