One person died in an early-morning crash Friday morning north of Lesterville.
At 1:04 a.m., a 31-year-old male was driving a 2005 Chrysler Pacifica eastbound on 295th Street near the road’s intersection with 435th street when he lost control of the vehicle, according to the South Dakota Highway Patrol. The vehicle rolled and a 24-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. He was not wearing a seat belt.
The driver sustained serious, life-threatening injuries. It is unclear if he was wearing a seat belt.
The names of the two people involved are not being released, pending notification of family members.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash. Other responding agencies were the Yankton County Sheriff’s Office, Yankton County Fire Department and Yankton County Emergency Medical Services.
