Lamesa, TX : Woman, Two TDCJ Officers Killed in Accident on Highway 349 Near Lamesa on Monday morning, November 24, 2014

A woman and two TDCJ correctional officers were killed in a motor vehicle accident near Lamesa on Monday morning have been identified. Texas DPS officials say 19-year-old Alexis Ayala, of Lamesa, 34-year-old Oluseguin Sangowale, of Midland and 36-year-old Akinjobi Akinpelu of Midland died in a crash around 6:45 a.m. on Highway 349. Troopers say Ayala was driving a 2014 Chevrolet Cruze north on Highway 349 when her car veered into the southbound lane hitting a 2003 Toyota Avalon driven by Sangowale. Ayala, Sangowale and Akinpelu were all pronounced dead at the scene. A passenger in the Avalon, 53-year-old Akinola Fasae of Irving, was taken to UMC in Lubbock. He remains in serious condition as of Tuesday afternoon. All three correctional officers were carpooling back to their homes after their shifts concluded at the Smith Unit in Lamesa. Ayala was a 2013 graduate of Lamesa High school.
