Clay County, FL : 70-year-old Virginia man seriously injured when sign falls from back of pickup and strikes his car on U.S. 301 in Clay County on Wednesday, July 8, 2015

A 70-year-old Virginia man was seriously injured Wednesday morning when a sign fell from a truck and hit his car on U.S. 301, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

Richard Allen Hamilton was driving south on U.S. 301 north of County Road 218 when a road closure sign fell from the back of a Chevy pickup truck driven by 56-year-old Donald Moore of Lake City. The sign fell into the middle of the southbound lanes, and Hamilton was unable to avoid the sign.

The arm of the sign hit the left front side of Hamilton's vehicle.

Hamilton was taken to UF Health Jacksonville with serious injuries.
