Cedar Fort , UT :72- Years old Donald Leroy Peterson killed after his car drifted into the path of garbage truck on Tuesday afternoon ,May 19th 2015
Police released the name of the man killed Tuesday afternoon in a crash involving a passenger car and a garbage truck on State Route 73.
Donald Leroy Peterson, age 72, died after his car drifted into the path of a garbage truck in Cedar Fort at about 2:30 p.m. Tuesday just south of Cedar Fort, according to information for the Utah County Sheriff's Office and Utah Department of Transportation.
Information released Wednesday morning by the sheriff's office stated, "After speaking with family members investigators did not learn anything about Mr. Peterson that would immediately explain what happened to cause this crash."
The accident involved a sedan traveling northbound and a garbage truck traveling southbound. The driver of the garbage truck said the sedan drifted into his lane, and the garbage truck driver made a sharp turn to avoid the accident. The collision was nearly directly head on, with the sedan striking the right side of the truck as it tried to swerve out of the path of the oncoming car, officials said.
Sgt. Spencer Cannon of the Utah County Sheriff's Office said it appears Peterson, who was driving the sedan, was killed on impact. There are no indications drugs or alcohol had a role in the crash, according to the sheriff's office.
