Manatee, FL : 23-year-old man died in crash on U.S. 41 in Manatee County early Thursday, May 5, 2016

A 23-year-old Sarasota man died early Thursday when he crashed his car into a utility pole along U.S. 41 in Manatee County, according to Florida Highway Patrol.

About 2:05 a.m., Glenn R. Mastrostefano was heading south on U.S. 41, approaching 69th Avenue West, at a high speed, when he failed to negotiate a curve, drove off the road and onto the curb and sidewalk and struck the pole, according to a news release.

The man was taken to Blake Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead, FHP said.

FHP said tests on whether the man had been drinking prior to the accident were pending.
