Bremen, IN : Two injured in head-on crash on U.S. Route 6 east of Beech Road on Monday afternoon, July 18, 2016

Two people were injured after a head-on crash near Bremen on Monday afternoon.

According to a report from the Bremen post of the Indiana State Police, the crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. Monday on U.S. Route 6 east of Beech Road, between Bremen and Nappanee.

Troopers said Francis Pugh, 77, of Bremen was driving east on U.S. 6 in a 2006 Ford Fusion when his vehicle went left of center and collided head-on with a 2002 Ford Explorer driven by Vassily Rematchik, 45, of Elkhart. Both drivers had to be extricated from their vehicles, troopers said.

Pugh was taken by medical helicopter to Memorial Hospital of South Bend for treatment of injuries to his lower body. Rematchik was taken to Elkhart General Hospital for treatment.

Troopers said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
