Zumbrota,MN : Sargeant woman killed in crash near Zumbrota on August, Wednesday 18th 2017

A 32-year-old woman is dead and a Rochester man is in custody after a one-car crash this morning on U.S. Highway 52 in Goodhue County.

Cassandra Lynn Sims, of Sargeant, was killed in the crash, which was reported at 4:50 a.m., just south of Goodhue County Road 7 in Minneola Township.

Sims was a passenger in a car allegedly driven by Jesse Jerold Juaire, 27, of Rochester. He was southbound on U.S. 52 when he ran off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected and rolled the car, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.


Both Juaire and a second passenger, Meless Lamar Bruton, 39, of Austin, refused transport for injuries that the report describes as not life-threatening.

Bruton had his seat belt fastened, Sims did not, officials said. It's unclear if Juaire was wearing his.

It was first reported there were four people in the vehicle, so a police dog was used to search the area, according to the state patrol. It was later determined to be incorrect information.

Juaire showed "indications of impairment," the report says; he was taken to the Goodhue County Detention Center and could be criminally charged.

Juaire has multiple traffic violations on his record, court documents show, including a 2013 conviction for misdemeanor criminal vehicular operation-driver who causes accident leaves the scene. He was sentenced to 90 days in jail.
