CANON CITY, CO : Man dies in Arkansas River rafting accident on April, Sunday 30th 2017
A rafting accident resulted in the death of one man in the Royal Gorge section of the Arkansas River west of here Sunday.
According to Fremont County sheriff's Detective Sgt. Megan Richards, the accident occurred at 12:38 p.m. near the Sunshine Falls rapid when a total of three raft occupants fell from the raft.
" Upon arrival, deputies found all parties out of the river and OK except one male who was unresponsive. CPR was being performed on the male," Richards said in a press release.
The Royal Gorge Route Railroad used a high rail truck to transport the male to Parkdale to meet medical crews and a Flight for Life helicopter. Lifesaving efforts were unsuccessful and the man was pronounced dead at the scene, Richards said.
The name of the victim is being withheld until family members are notified, Richards said, and the investigation is ongoing. The river was running at 500 cubic feet per second Sunday at the Parkdale gauge, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
