Hudson, FL : 53-year-old Spring Hill man dead following a hit-and-run crash on Kitten Trail in Hudson on Tuesday, January 27, 2015

A Spring Hill bicyclist was killed Tuesday night in Hudson when he was struck by a driver who left the scene and was later found at her residence, troopers said.

Thomas Elliot Downing, 53, was riding east on Kitten Trail approaching Dennis Drive around 11:30 p.m. when he was struck by a 1997 Ford pickup truck driven by Melissa Sue Brandl, 40, of Hudson, according to a release from the Florida Highway Patrol.

The bicyclist died at the scene, troopers said.

Brandl left the scene but a tip led troopers to her home, where she and her car were found, the release said.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash and charges are pending, according to the release.
