Panama City, FL : Altha woman and child seriously injured in a single-car crash in Jackson County Tuesday evening, August 2, 2016
An Altha woman and a child sustained serious injuries in a single-car crash in Jackson County Tuesday evening, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. Another adult and two other children in the vehicle had minor injuries.
Jennifer Duncan, 30, of Altha, was driving a 1996 GMC Sierra east on Old Spanish Trail approaching State 71 when the wreck took place. According to the report, her vehicle was traveling too fast to negotiate a sharp curve to the left, and left the roadway on the north shoulder. The Sierra rotated counter-clockwise down an embankment and collided with a pine tree.
It then spun clockwise and hit a wooden power pole, coming to rest facing north in the tree line.
Duncan and an 11-year-old child, Mary Duncan, had serious injuries, the report said. Both were wearing their seatbelts. Jennifer Duncan was taken to Bay Medical Center, and Mary Duncan was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital.
Minor injuries included Christopher Suggs, 40, Daniel Duncan, 7, and James Duncan, 10, all of Altha. Suggs was taken to Jackson Hospital and the two children to Bay Medical. All three were wearing seatbelts.
According to the FHP, alcohol was a factor in the wreck. Charges are pending, and the investigation is ongoing.
