DES MOINES, IA : Victim in serious 2-vehicle crash dies, authorities say on Thursday, October, 19th 2017
Des Moines police are investigating a fatal crash involving a car and a pickup truck.
Rescue personnel with the Des Moines Police Department and the Des Moines Fire Department were sent at approximately 1 p.m. Thursday to the intersection of Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and Clark Street on a report of a serious motor vehicle crash.
Witnesses told police that a gray pickup truck, which was going southbound on MLK, failed to stop at a red light. The eastbound car entered the intersection on a green light and was struck broadside by the pickup truck.
The driver of the car was taken to a nearby hospital in serious condition, where he later died of his injuries.
The driver of the pickup truck did not suffer any injuries. No charges have been filed as of late Thursday afternoon.
MLK was closed between College and Clark streets due to the crash.
The identities of those involved in the crash have not yet been released, pending family notification.
