GONZALES, LA : Vacherie man dies in a two-vehicle accident in Gonzales on Thursday, January 26th 2017

A Vacherie man died early Thursday morning when the vehicle he was a passenger in was struck by another car trying to make a left-hand turn from La. 30, Gonzales Police Chief Sherman Jackson said.

The driver at fault, Brian Ducote of Gonzales, was traveling eastbound on La. 30 shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday when he tried to turn left at the intersection of La. 30 at South Purpera, Jackson said.

Ducote struck another vehicle traveling westbound on La. 30, which had the green light, in a head-on collision, Jackson said.

The passenger in that vehicle, Brandon Joseph of Vacherie, died in the crash, the police chief said.

The investigation into the crash is continuing, Jackson said, and blood samples from both drivers have been sent to the State Police crime lab.

Ducote was ticketed with failure to yield when turning left, Jackson said.
