Ardmore, OK : Victim identified in Love County fatality crash on Wednesday, September 6, 2017
The passenger of a Dodge Ram 1500 driven by a 17-year-old boy died Wednesday after the truck was engulfed in flames caused by hitting a tree, according to Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports.
The northbound vehicle collided into the tree shortly after 3 p.m. one mile south of Thackerville after departing off of Brown Springs Road, according to reports.
Oklahoma State Medical Examiner Investigator Leroy Johnson pronounced Bennett R. McNulty, 21, of Whitesboro, dead from massive injuries sustained from the collision after the Thackerville Fire Department used the Jaws of Life for extrication, according to reports.
The driver, whose name was withheld in a report from OHP, was transported to Denton Regional Medical Center in Denton, Texas, then treated and released.
Neither the driver nor McNulty were wearing seatbelts when the vehicle hit the tree, according to the report.
OHP is still investigating what exactly caused the vehicle to lose control and slam into the tree, as well as the driver’s condition at the time of the crash.
