Fairmont, WV : Fatal motorcycle accident still under investigation on Wednesday, 24th August, 2016

Police are still investigating a motorcycle accident in Bellview that led to a fatality on Wednesday night.

According to Sgt. D. Wolford with the Fairmont Police Department, there was a single vehicle accident involving one motorcycle on Pennsylvania Avenue near Colasessano’s Pizza at around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Wofford confirmed that the accident did lead to a fatality but did not confirm the name or the gender of the victim.

The Fairmont Police Department is not releasing any information about the victim, he said.

The family of the victim of the accident has been notified, Wolford said.

“Out of respect of the family we’re just waiting for the whole report to be finalized before we release any information,” Wofford said.

The Fairmont Police Department is still investigating what happened during the accident, he said.

“We have an accident reconstructionist that is reconstructing the scene,” Wofford said. “We’re just waiting for his report back.”

He is not sure what transpired up to the time of the accident, Wofford said.

“We can’t tell if it was a failure on the operator, if it was a mechanical issue,” he said. “We just don’t know, so we’re waiting for the reconstruction.”

The Fairmont Police Department, the Fairmont Fire Department, and the Marion County Rescue Squad responded to the accident according to Wofford.

Pennsylvania Avenue was closed for a time Wednesday night due to the accident, according to the Marion County 911 center.
