Ocala,FL : Ocala man, 94, dies in crash on I-75 on February, Thursday 8th 2018
A man was killed early Thursday morning when the car he was driving collided with a UPS truck and then slammed into the side of a semi parked along Interstate 75 near County Road 326 in Marion County.
Florida Highway Patrol troopers identified him 94-year-old Joseph Richard Williams of Ocala.
Law enforcement officials said the 2006 Toyota Camry and the UPS truck, which was hauling two trailers, were traveling south on I-75. The other semi, driven by Ciarra Coleman, 31, of Hazelwood, Missouri, had pulled over on the right shoulder near Mile Marker 358.
Troopers said the UPS truck, driven by Gerald M. Atwater, 53, of Jacksonville, and the car made contact, and the man driving the car lost control and went under the parked semi. Richard died at the scene.
Marion County firefighters extricated the body from the car.
Neither truck driver was injured, troopers said.
FHP received a call about the wreck at 12:27 a.m.
Coleman was asleep at the time of the crash. Troopers said she was heading to Miami with a load of batteries. The trucking company is Celadon Trucking Services Inc. of Indianapolis, Indiana.
The I-75 southbound entrance ramp at CR 326 was closed for several hours while troopers investigated the crash.
