A Cana man is dead, a Mount Airy woman is critical and a driver faces DWI charges after a traffic accident Friday night.
Clinton Robert Edwards, 63, of Pauls Creek Road in Cana, Virginia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, which occurred at the intersection of North Point Boulevard and University Parkway at about 9:55 p.m., according to a press release from the Winston-Salem Police Department.
Edwards was driving a 2007 Honda Civic when a 1995 Ford F-150 operated by Robert Taylor Downey, 50, of Grant Avenue in Winston-Salem, collided with the Civic.
“The preliminary investigation revealed that Mr. Downey was operating the Ford F-150 southbound on University Parkway and failed to stop at a red light at North Point Boulevard,” reads the statement. “The vehicle traveled into the intersection striking the Honda Civic, which was eastbound on North Point Boulevard.”
Downey has been charged with driving while impaired and driving with a revoked license, according to the statement. The case remains under investigation.
Mary Edwards King, of White Buffalo Road in Mount Airy, was a passenger in the vehicle Edwards was operating. The statement indicates she was transported to an area hospital with minor injuries.
However, a representative from Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center said King was listed in critical condition Saturday evening.
