Jackson, TN : 6-year-old killed in I-40 crash early Saturday morning, November 5, 2016
A 6-year-old child has died from injuries he received in a crash early Saturday morning after his mother hit a semi-truck head-on on an exit ramp.
Tristan Dodd was airlifted to LeBonheur Children's Hospital in Memphis, and his mother, 24-year-old Kayla Lewis, was flown to Regional One for treatment of their injuries. Dodd died at LeBonheur, according to a Tennessee Highway Patrol crash report.
Lewis was driving the wrong way on exit ramp 108 on Interstate 40 at Henderson County when she hit a semi-truck, driven by Gonzalez Garcia Yordanis, 38, of Hialeah Florida. Yordanis was travelling in the correct direction, according to the report.
Dodd was not in a child restraint device, but he was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. Additional restraints would not have made an impact, the report said.
The wreck was reported around 3:30 a.m. Yordanis was not injured.
Criminal charges are pending, the report says.
