Monessen, PA : Man dies in 3-vehicle crash on Route 56 in Lower Burrell on May, Sunday, 21st 2017
An Army Reserve MP was among the first to provide first aid at a crash that claimed a man's life Sunday evening along Route 56 in Lower Burrell.
Spc. Jessica Wasas, a military police officer, said she was a little late leaving Reserve training in New Kensington when she saw the three-vehicle wreck.
It was about 7:20 p.m. along Route 56 near the intersection of Puckety Church Road and Leechburg Road.
“There were no other emergency services there yet, so I tried to help,” Wasas said. “He looked very bad.”
Police said four people were sent to hospitals, including the man Wasas helped in a black Honda Accord.
Just after 9 p.m., the Allegheny County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed that a victim in the wreck had died. A name wasn't released pending notification of next of kin.
Police couldn't say Sunday night whether the Accord driver was the person who died.
Three other people were injured — a man in a Dodge pickup and two Vandergrift residents in a black Lincoln Town Car. They were taken to another hospital.
Names and conditions were not immediately known.
Police were still trying to piece together what happened. Lower Burrell Detective Sgt. Jason Napier arrived to investigate and a state police accident reconstruction team also was requested.
Route 56 was still shut down in both directions at 12:30 a.m. Monday.
Police said the Accord driver was alone when it apparently was struck on the driver's side. The Accord appeared to have been pushed dozens of yards and was straddling the road in lanes heading toward Allegheny Township.
