Remsen, NY : Peter Betz, 55, died in Motorcycle crash on Route 12 Oneida County on Wednesday afternoon, September 21, 2016

A Rome man was killed in an accident Wednesday afternoon on Route 12, according to Oneida County Sheriff's Office.

Peter Betz, 55, who was operating a motorcycle, was pronounced dead at the scene, officials said.

Betz was headed south around 4:30 p.m. when the motorcycle he and his passenger — Tia Eddy, 27, of Rome — were on smashed into rear of a southbound Freightliner F170 truck driven by Caroline Bordet, 20, who is an international exchange student from France currently living in Remsen, deputies said.

Eddy was transported by Mercy Flight to SUNY Upstate Medical Center for treatment.

Bordet was evaluated at the scene for a complaint of minor pain and then released.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by New York State Environmental Conservation Police, the Remsen Fire Department, Kuyahoora Ambulance and members of Prospect Ambulance.

The accident is still under investigation.
