CLE ELUM, WA : Woman injured in crash outside Cle Elum on Friday, June 9, 2017

The Washington State Patrol says intoxicants and speed were factors in a crash that sent a Maryland woman to a local hospital Friday afternoon.

Kristine Steinkoenig, 58, of Annapolis, Md., failed to slow on a curve on State Route 970 just after 4 p.m. about 2 miles east of Cle Elum, the State Patrol said. Steinkoenig’s 2004 Toyota pickup struck the rear of a 1996 Ford dump truck driven by 51-year-old Eric Miller, troopers said.

No address was provided by the state patrol for Miller, who was not injured. Steinkoenig, who troopers say was not wearing a seatbelt, was taken to Virginia Mason Memorial hospital in Yakima. She remained hospitalized in stable condition Saturday afternoon.

Troopers said they expect to cite Steinkoenig with driving under the influence.
