Springfield,IL : Springfield vehicle crash kills 1, sends 3 to hospital on Thursday, 7th May, 2020

One person was killed and three were injured when a car crashed into a tree and caught fire on Springfield Street early Thursday, a fire department spokesman said.

Fire Capt. Drew Piemonte said the crash occurred about 4:45 a.m. in the area of 232 Springfield St. Three of the victims were thrown from the vehicle and taken to the hospital, he said.

Ryan Walsh, spokesman for Springfield police, said those injured are expected to be okay. Speed is suspected to be a factor in the crash, which remains under investigation.
