Melbourne, FL : Pregnant woman killed in I-95 crash on Monday afternoon, December 26, 2016
A pregnant woman died after the driver of the car she was in lost control on Interstate 95 south Monday afternoon, a Florida Highway Patrol spokeswoman said.
Ariel Adams, 26 of Fort Pierce, was pronounced dead at Holmes Regional Medical Center in Melbourne, Sgt. Kim Montes said. Troopers did not know how far along her pregnancy was.
Adams was a passenger in a 2003 GMC SUV driven by James Amman, 28, Montes said. Amman was driving near the exit to U.S. Highway 192 when he lost control at about 5:45 p.m., Montes said.
The SUV side-swiped a Chevrolet pickup, then hit a Ford pickup hauling a boat, Montes said.
The SUV then tumbled down an embankment on the right side of the highway and flipped. Adams, who troopers said was not wearing a seat-belt, was thrown out of the SUV.
The Chevrolet pickup also fell down the embankment, though its driver was not injured. The Ford driver was also unharmed.
Amman had minor injuries, Montes said.
Troopers are investigating what caused the crash.
