CUMBERLAND, MD : Four injured in Route 51 crash on Sunday, 26th January, 2020

Four people were injured in a two-vehicle accident Sunday evening on state Route 51 at Teter Hill that occurred after one of the vehicles struck a deer, according to the Allegany County Sheriff's Office.

Police said Robert Hunter, 58, of Torrington, Connecticut, Derek Smalley, 42, of Connellsville, Pennsylvania, and two other people were taken to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment of injuries that were not life-threatening in nature.

Hunter was reportedly operating a 2011 Hyundai Sonata eastbound on Route 51 when the vehicle struck a deer crossing the highway, causing his vehicle to cross the center line and travel into the path of a 2013 Ford truck operated by Smalley and also occupied by two passengers.

Both vehicle were destroyed and towed from the scene, according to the sheriff's office.

Police said the accident remains under investigation.
