Washington Court House, Ohio
A husband and wife from South Salem were killed Monday evening in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Snowhill Road and Greenfield-Sabina Road in Fayette County.
At approximately 5:50 p.m., Peggy R. Lightle, 62, was driving a 2002 Jeep Liberty eastbound on Greenfield-Sabina Road with her husband, 60-year-old Martin E. Lightle, Jr. in the passenger seat. A 2015 Toyota Tacoma, operated by Jacob S. Tyree, 24, of New Vienna, was heading southbound on Snowhill Road.
According to Fayette County Sheriff Vernon Stanforth, Tyree’s vehicle failed to yield causing a collision with Lightle’s vehicle in the intersection. Both vehicles went off the southeast side of the roadway and overturned into a field.
Both Peggy and Martin Lightle were pronounced dead at the scene by Fayette County Coroner Dr. Dennis Mesker. Tyree suffered serious injuries and was airlifted by MedFlight to an area trauma center for treatment.
Tyree’s vehicle caught fire following impact and an area resident managed to extinguish the fire before the arrival of emergency services, according to Stanforth.
The Fayette County Sheriff’s Office, Fayette County EMS, and the Concord Green Fire Department all responded to the accident scene. The crash is still under investigation by the Sheriff’s Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
