Washtenaw County, MI : Bicyclist killed in a car crash in rural Augusta Township on Friday evening, December 25, 2015

A bicyclist was killed Christmas Eve after somehow getting involved in a car crash in rural Augusta Township, officials confirmed.

Augusta Township Fire Chief Dave Music said crews were called to Willis Road near Tuttle Hill for a motor vehicle crash around 6:04 p.m.

Music said there were at least two cars involved, as well as the bicyclist. One car was eastbound, the other westbound.

It wasn't immediately clear just how the bicyclist was involved. The details of the crash have not been released.

An official with the Michigan State Police, which investigated, confirmed the fatality, but did not have any information to release to as of Tuesday afternoon, including the man's age or hometown.

Music said the man was known for riding his bike in the area and collecting pop cans to return for the deposit, but he didn't have any additional information about the crash or the man who was killed.

Joyce Williams of Huron Valley Ambulance confirmed the fatality and said the victim was hit by one or possibly both of the vehicles and pronounced dead at the scene.

The Milan Area Fire Department was also at the scene to assist.
