WINSTON-SALEM, NC : 5 pedestrians left injured following crash during WSSU Homecoming parade on Saturday, 9th November 2024
Five pedestrians are injured after a crash during the Winston-Salem State University Homecoming parade, according to officers with the Winston-Salem Police Department.
On Saturday, around 11 a.m., police said they were providing traffic control and security for the Homecoming parade. While the parade was in progress, officers responded to a car crash involving pedestrians in the area of Martin Luther King Jr. Drive at Research Parkway.
Investigators said the driver of a 2009 Chevrolet had stopped to wait for the parade. Unexpectedly, officers said the driver began moving, hitting several pedestrians and a 2024 Cadillac. According to police, both vehicles and all five pedestrians were participants in the parade.
Police, along with the Winston-Salem Fire Department and Forsyth County EMS, responded to the scene to provide medical aid. The injured pedestrians were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Neither of the drivers were injured.
