A Meridian woman was killed and a man from Meridian was injured in a two-car collision that also killed a Plano man and injured five others at about 7 p.m. Friday on U.S. Highway 84 east of Fairfield, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety press release.
Charline Wallace, 62, of Meridian was pronounced dead at the scene Sgt. D.L. Wilson said in the press release. She was a passenger in a 2017 Chevrolet Cruze driven by William Wallace, 64, of Meridian, reported to be in stable condition Saturday at Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center in Waco. Another passenger, Dwayne J. McCain, 38, of Plano, was also dead at the scene.
The driver and four passengers in a 2001 Cadillac DeVille were all injured and taken to different hospitals. The driver was Joshua J. Williams, 17, of Palestine. Cities of residence of the passengers were not immediately reported, but their names were given as Daroddrick Williams, 18, Jalen Perry, 16, Dennis Smith Jr., 17, and Makel Levy, 18.
The DeVille, traveling west on Highway 84, was in the process of passing in a no-passing zone when the crash happened, Wilson said in the press release.
He said all occupants of the Chevrolet were wearing seat belts, but no one in the Cadillac was.
“At this time it is unknown what charges will be filed,” Wilson said Saturday.
