A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after he was allegedly driving while under the influence and wrecked his car in Ashland City.
Authorities on scene told News 2 the driver hit a utility pole just before 3:30 a.m. on Bearwallow Road, snapping it in half and causing wires to fall on the roadway.
When Cheatham County sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene they found a vehicle off the road and on its roof.
Deputies had to knock on the window several times to get the driver to respond, but once out of the vehicle he refused treatment.
His name was not released, but he reportedly told officials on scene that he had been drinking.
A cooler was found in the vehicle and contained multiple beer cans.
Deputies with the Tennessee Highway Patrol were called in and administered a field sobriety test, which the driver performed poorly on.
He was put in handcuffs and THP deputies said he would at least be charged with driving under the influence.
One lane of Bearwallow Road was closed until a tow truck arrived and removed the vehicle.
