Wabasha County, MN : 62-year-old motorcyclist killed in a two-vehicle crash on Hwy. 61 near Kellogg on Saturday afternoon, April 16, 2016
A motorcyclist has been killed in a crash during the 51st annual Spring Flood Run in southeastern Minnesota.
Randall J. Beers, 62, of Onalaska, Wis., died at the scene just before 5 p.m. Saturday when a 2008 Pontiac G6 collided with his 2001 Harley-Davidson. The crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 61 and Minnesota 42 in Wabasha County.
According to the Minnesota State Patrol, the Pontiac was waiting to make a left turn from Minnesota 42 onto U.S. 61. The motorcycle was traveling south on U.S. 61.
A passenger on the motorcycle, Jessica Lesniewski, 37, of Bangor, Wis., suffered injuries not considered life-threatening. She was flown by helicopter to Saint Marys Hospital in Rochester and was in fair condition Sunday.
The occupants of the Pontiac — driver Valerie Perushek, 30, of Bloomer, Wis., and passenger Sharlie M. King, 29, of Chetek, Wis. — were not injured in the crash.
Thousands of motorcycles were expected to be on the road in southeastern Minnesota this weekend, driving from the Twin Cities to Winona. The annual Spring Flood Run commemorates the trip made by 12 bikers to help sandbag during Winona’s flood of 1965.
