Columbia, SC : 51-year-old Walter Antonio Simmons killed in a fatal collision on I-20 WB Saturday morning, August 6, 2016

The Richland County Coroner has identified the man who was killed in a fatal collision on I-20 WB Saturday morning.

The coroner identified the victim as 51-year-old Walter Antonio Simmons of Elgin. His autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning.

Traffic is now moving on I-20 at the 67 mile marker, which is near the Monticello Road exit.

According to the SCHP, the collision took place just before 10:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Troopers say a tractor trailer that was traveling on I-20 WB switched lanes and hit Simmons car causing it to lose control. He was taken to the hospital from the scene where he died not long after.
