Authorities say a 90-year-old barbershop owner was struck and killed near his Long Island home by a suspected drunk driver.

Police say George Kurovics was struck Wednesday on Main Road in Jamesport.

Diane O'Neill, of Farmingville, a teacher at Southold High school, was arraigned on a DWI charge.

She was released on $10,000 cash bail. Newsday (http://nwsdy.li/1Bvw0zi ) says she declined to comment. The school says her status with the district is pending.

Kurovics' son, George, says his father was driving home when he spotted his cat Buddy dead in the roadway. He pulled over and was carrying the pet when he was hit.

The son says his father still worked in the Rocky Point barber shop he opened in 1948. He had survived World War II, heart surgeries and cancer.
