An Osceola sheriff's deputy is recovering in a hospital after his patrol vehicle was hit early Saturday morning by an alleged drunk driver, according to the Florida Highway Patro
Troopers said the crash occurred around 2 a.m. at John Young Parkway and Town Center Boulevard in the Hunters Creek area of South Orange County.
Deputy Christopher Pye, 23, of Kissimmee, was on his way home from an off-duty detail when his patrol car was hit by a van that made a left turn into his path, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.
The driver of the van, 23-year-old Edgar Arnaldo Rodriguez, was not injured, but Pye was taken to Osceola Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.
After troopers conducted a field sobriety test, interviewed witnesses and looked at evidence at the scene, Rodriguez was booked into the Orange County Jail for driving under the influence and driving under the influence with property damage. He has since bonded out of jail.
Pye was kept in the hospital for observation, and it's not known when he can return to work.
