VANCEBURG, KY : Motor accidents halt funeral procession on Tuesday, September 19th 2017
Two separate accidents halted a funeral procession on Tuesday in Lewis County.
The accidents happened shortly after noon on Kentucky 8, east of Vanceburg.
According to Lewis County Deputy Bryon Walker, a funeral procession was making its way east on Kentucky 8 when a westbound vehicle pulled to the edge of the roadway and stopped as a sign of respect. According to Walker, there is no shoulder on the roadway at that location.
A 2000 Cheverolet S-10 pick-up truck operated by Ernest J. McCleese was also traveling west and apparently didn’t notice the stopped vehicle in time.
Walker said McCleese veered to the right to avoid hitting the stopped car and went off the roadway, striking a drainage ditch running perpendicular to the roadway.
According to Walker, a 2015 Nissan Altima operated by Kevin Royal was traveling east in the funeral procession and was being followed by a 2005 Ford Focus operated by Katrina Hopkins.
