CORNVILLE, AZ : 1 dead, 5 taken to hospital in 3-vehicle crash on Cornville Road on Wednesday, November 23rd 2016
The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office and Verde Valley Fire District confirmed that one person was killed in a three-vehicle crash on Cornville Road Wednesday afternoon.
The crash, which occurred just before 4 p.m., happened about halfway between Cornville Road’s intersection with Tissaw Road and the Cornville Road switchbacks, just west of the Verde Santa Fe housing development.
According to Dwight D’Evelyn, Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office media relations coordinator, “one of the vehicles overturned as a result of the crash. Deputies from the Eastern Area Command along with medical personnel responded. The initial investigation confirms that one person has died as a result of the crash. Members of the Serious Collision Team are responding to investigate and determine cause.”
Verde Valley Fire District Fire Chief Nazih Hazime said two of the three vehicles in the crash collided head-on and there was one rollover. In all, he said, "there were six patients, one of which is a fatality. We had two engines, one ambulance, one deputy chief from VVFD.”
In addition, he said the crash required three ambulances from Verde Valley Ambulance Company. Five people were taken to the hospital.
