LOGAN COUNTY, WV : 12-year-old boy hit and killed in Logan County on Tuesday, 12th September 2023

Schools and businesses across the state wore blue on Tuesday to honor the life of 12-year-old Chance Artist, a Logan Middle School student who was hit and killed by a car last Friday waiting for the bus.

Logan Middle School Principal Brian Atkinson said it has been a tragedy that has rocked the community, especially the students in the school.

"Chance was very quiet, had a smile and sometimes you just didn’t know he was in the room, he was that quiet but he was just such a joy to have in class," Atkinson said. “He was that one student that kind of stood out that always had a nice word to say always had great things to say about others. He was a great friend to other students and just a great student in the classroom.”

Artist was on his way to school last Friday when he was hit and killed by a car in the West Logan area. The driver told deputies they could not see Artist when they turned onto 11th Street.
