Cleveland, TN : Ringgold motorcyclist dies in crash on Thursday, October 27, 2016
A motorcyclist being pursued by Collegedale Police died after crashing his bike on Bancroft Road in Bradley County early this morning.
According to the preliminary report filed by Trooper Curtis
Walker of the Tennessee Highway Patrol, the victim of the crash was James Michael McAllister, 57, of Ringgold,?Ga. He was riding on a 2004 Honda motorcycle when the 12:16 a.m. accident occurred.
The trooper’s report said that Collegedale Police clocked the cycle at 80 mph in a 45 mph zone in that city, and the officer attempted to pull the cyclist over. However, the suspect fled north on U.S. Highway 11 into Bradley County, then turned left onto Bancroft Road.
“The subject went off the left side of the roadway, continued over a gravel drive and into a ditch,” the report explained. The cycle hit a culvert and McAllister was thrown from the bike. He was transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga, where he was pronounced dead this morning.
Walker’s report said McAllister’s family has been notified, and testing will continue on the victim by the Medical Examiner’s office in Chattanooga, with any further information being forwarded to the THP soon.
The posted speed limit on Bancroft Road where the accident occurred is 45 mph. The trooper’s report did not indicate the speed at which the cycle was traveling when the accident occurred.
