Moore County wreck shuts down U.S. 15-501

One person was seriously injured this morning after a three-vehicle on U.S. 15-501 about five miles east of Carthage, the Highway Patrol said.

The names' of the drivers were not available Thursday afternoon.

The wreck happened about 8:45 a.m., near Kelly Road, when a sedan sideswiped a dump truck, a Highway Patrol spokesman said.

The sedan kept going and crash into a tractor trailer, the spokesman said.

Two people who were in the car were injured, the spokesman said.

One was taken to FirstHealth Moore Regional Hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.

The second victim was flown to UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, the spokesman said. There was no information about that person's condition.

The road was shut down for several hours as rescue and emergency personnel worked to clear it of debris, a witness said.

Among those responding were Carthage Fire and Rescue, Cypress Pointe Fire and Rescue, state Department of Transportation and Moore County Emergency Medical Services.

The road reopened about 3 p.m., a witness said.
