Anchorage, AK : Two fatal rollover crashes on the Parks Highway on Tuesday, August 22, 2017
Alaska State Troopers responded to two fatal rollover crashes on the Parks Highway on Tuesday sharing similar characteristics.
Healy-based troopers were notified of the first crash at Mile 206 of the highway at about 7:35 p.m., according to an online dispatch. While en route to the rollover, troopers were told it involved a fatality and a passenger was seriously injured, the dispatch says.
Troopers determined that Amanda Fleming, a 32-year-old from Anchorage, was driving a 2002 Toyota 4Runner southbound on the Parks "when the vehicle left the roadway, rolled approximately three times, causing the driver to be ejected," troopers said.
Fleming's passenger, James Guandolo, 27, of Colorado, was taken to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital, troopers said.
Her family has been told about her death. The state medical examiner has called for an autopsy.
Another woman from Anchorage died in a separate rollover crash on the Parks later Tuesday.
Fairbanks troopers were notified of the single-vehicle crash at Mile 324.7 of the highway just after 11 p.m.
Troopers said Charlene Peterson, 25, was driving a 2005 Toyota pickup southbound when it left the road and overturned. Peterson was pronounced dead at the scene.
No further details were immediately available on both rollovers.
