Cabazon, CA : Albuquerque man killed in I-10 collision in Cabazon; 2 others hurt on Interstate 10 on Tuesday, 3rd September 2019
An New Mexico man was identified as the victim of a fatal collision that left two others injured Tuesday morning on Interstate 10 in Cabazon.
Scott Fliegel, 56, was pronounced dead 10:25 a.m. — about 18 minutes after the collision occurred, according to the Riverside County Coroner's office.
Fliegel had been a member of Congregation Albert in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for at least 20 years and Cantor Barbara Finn said he enjoyed playing guitar and softball and was a "kind and jovial person."
In April, an Albuquerque Journal article detailed Fliegel's efforts to secure softball uniforms for his team, the Hebrew Nationals, after contacting the company that makes kosher hot dogs with the same name.
Receiving serious injuries in the collision was a 43-year-old Albuquerque woman, whose name has not been disclosed.
California Highway Patrol Officer Darren Meyer described her as Fliegel's girlfriend and said her injuries were not life threatening. As of Wednesday morning, she was "most likely still at the hospital," Meyer said.
