Two Dayton-area residents were killed in a crash on I-65 in Lake County, Ind. near Chicago Thursday night.
James Patrick Evans, 27, of Dayton, and Terry Wayne Holcomb, 29, of Xenia, were both pronounced dead at the scene of the two-vehicle crash reported around 9:40 p.m., according to Indiana State Police.
Troopers said Evans and Holcomb were travelling in a Chevrolet Cavalier when a Ford Windstar, driven by Mireya Maldonado, 19, of Chicago, attempted to pass the vehicle and lost control sideswiping Evan and Holcomb’s vehicle, troopers said.
The Cavalier rolled at least once and both Evans and Holcomb were ejected from the vehicle. Neither Evans or Holcomb was wearing a seat belt, investigators said.
Maldonado’s vehicle also went of the highway and ended up crashed in a grassy median.
Maldonado suffered minor injuries in the crash.
Troopers shut down two lanes of the highway while reconstruction of the crash scene was conducted.
Invesigators have not announced whether an charges have been pursued in the crash.
Troopers said they don’t believe drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash.
