TOWN OF PARIS, WI : Kenosha woman killed, two injured in crash on Monday, 1st January 2018
A New Year’s Day head-on crash left a Kenosha woman dead and two people seriously injured.
At 6:28 p.m. Monday, the Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department and Paris Fire and Rescue responded to the 12300 block of Highway K (60th Street) for a serious two-vehicle crash with injuries, according to a Kenosha Sheriff’s Department news release. Fire and rescue crews from Pleasant Prairie and Bristol also assisted at the scene.
An on-site investigation revealed that a 2006 Toyota Corolla traveling east was struck head-on by a 2012 Toyota Tundra pickup truck that was traveling west, the release said.
The Toyota Corolla’s operator, a 53-year-old Kenosha woman named Djuana Latshaw, was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of injuries she sustained in the crash, sheriff’s officials said.
Latshaw’s passenger, a 7-year-old boy, also was injured in the crash and transported for medical care. Although the boy sustained serious injuries in the crash, he is expected to survive.
The pickup truck’s operator has been identified as Christopher Thayer, a 38-year-old Kenosha County man. Thayer sustained serious injuries and also was transported for medical care. He is expected to survive, sheriff’s officials said.
An investigation revealed that Thayer, who was alone in his vehicle, reportedly left his lane of travel and entered the lane occupied by Latshaw’s vehicle allegedly causing the crash, sheriff’s officials said.
Thayer faces pending charges of first offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated causing death, as well as numerous other traffic-related charges.
