Two Ole Miss students killed in car accident, two more injured
A one-car accident in Oxford left two Ole Miss students dead and two more in the hospital.Lafayette County Deputy Coroner Glynn Coleman said Christopher J. Grimaud, 20, of St. Louis and Kevin J. Eagan, 18, of St. Charles, Mo., were both killed. Coleman said they were pronounced dead at the scene.Two other students, Arthur Lueking and James Connors, both of the St. Louis area, were taken to separate hospitals. The driver, who was not specified, was taken to The Med in Memphis, Tenn. The other student was taken to Baptist Hospital of North Mississippi.The Oxford Police Department said the accident took place at approximately 4:45 a.m. on Hwy. 7 near University Avenue. Coleman said the car appeared to leave the southbound lane, hit the median and flip. The Ford Mustang was overturned when authorities arrived.The driver and the backseat passenger on the driver’s side were both ejected from the vehicle. Coleman said both of those students survived. The two students on the passenger side were killed.It is not known if any of the four were wearing seatbelts.“The University of Mississippi is shocked and saddened by this tragic incident," Ole Miss Dean of Students Sparky Reardon said in a statement. "Our hearts break when we lose students and today the whole University is hurting. We will work through our University Counseling Center to address the emotional needs of the students’ families and friends. The thoughts and prayers of the whole University family are with the families of the students we lost and those who have been injured.”The St. Louis Dispatch reported that funeral arrangements for Christopher Grimaud would be handled by Kutis Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements for Eagen will be handled by Styger Mid Rivers Funeral Home in St. Charles, the paper said.
