BYRON, MN : Byron man dies in snowmobile crash on Friday, January 27th 2017
A snowmobile crash Friday afternoon claimed the life of a Byron man, authorities said today.
Terry Harvey Howard, 49, was riding in the area of the 7100 block of Olmsted County Road 15 when witnesses said he hit a hard embankment. Howard was thrown from the snowmobile and landed several yards away, said Sgt. Kirby Long of the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office; it's believed Howard struck his abdomen on the handlebars as he was ejected.
He complained of abdominal and back pain at the scene, the report says, and was flown by medical helicopter to a Rochester hospital, where he died in surgery.
Two other snowmobile crashes occurred over the weekend in Olmsted County, Long said. One involved a 58-year-old woman whose snowmobile struck a driveway approach, snapping the track and throwing the victim, who sustained back injuries.
