Owatonna, MN : One person injured in I-35 crash near Owatonna Friday afternoon, August 19, 2016

One person was hurt Friday afternoon in a crash on Interstate 35 near Owatonna.

Jonathan Werstein, 29, of Spencer, Iowa, was driving northbound in a Kia Optima when he collided with a northbound Ford pickup driven by Elise Gerkin, 27, of Defiance, Ohio, according to a crash report from the Minnesota State Patrol. The crash took place on the bridge over 26th Street at Exit 43.

Werstein suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Owatonna Hospital, while Gerkin was unhurt. Both were wearing seatbelts. The report did not detail how the crash occurred, but Werstein’s vehicle suffered substantial front-end damage and was towed from the scene.

The crash was reported at 12:48 p.m. and slowed northbound traffic as officers guided other motorists into the median to avoid the scene. Gold Cross Ambulance and Owatonna Fire assisted at the scene.
