COLUMBIA, MO : Head-on collision kills one, shuts down highway on Saturday, December 10th, 2016
A man was killed and two people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on Highway 124 on Saturday night. The crash shut down both lanes of the highway for several hours, said Gale Blomenkamp, Boone County Fire Protection District Assistant Chief.
Missouri State Highway Patrol officers and Boone County Fire Protection District units responded to the collision around 9:45 p.m. Saturday, just south of Route JJ, according to the crash report.
Ricky McGinnis, 55, was a passenger in Aaron Dow's Chevrolet Cavalier, when Dow, 39, crossed the center line and collided with Rebecca Coulter's Ford Edge. McGinnis was pronounced dead at the scene.
Responders found Dow in his car, responsive with multiple injuries, Blomenkamp said. Coulter, 54, was pinned and trapped in her car, but conscious, Blomenkamp said.
Both Dow and Coulter were extricated from their vehicles. Dow was airlifted to University Hospital, and Coulter was transported by ambulance. Both were in serious condition as of Saturday night.
Missouri State Highway Patrol is still investigating the collision.
