Marysville, CA : Woman dies in Sutter County crash on Tuesday, March 14th 2017
Seven people from Paradise and Chico were in a single-vehicle accident south of Howsley Road that left one passenger dead, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
The 2001 Chevy Suburban carrying the seven passengers left the roadway at Highway 99 south of Howsley Road and overturned, landing on its wheels in a drainage canal, the CHP said.
The 65-year-old woman — identified by the Placer County Coroner as Judith A. Wineroth — who was trapped in the front passenger seat, was extricated by Sutter County Fire and transported to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead on Sunday.
The driver, Barry D. Wineroth, 73, of Chico, and 6-year-old passenger Harmony Holbert-Ely of Paradise were uninjured. Passenger Shane M. Holbert-Ely, 42, of Paradise, was transported to UC Davis by ambulance for moderate injuries. Passengers April L. Holbert-Ely, 42; Haven Holbert-Ely, 11; and Hope Holbert-Ely, 9, were also transported to UC Davis by ambulance for minor injuries.
Wineroth's daughter, Sarah Vargas, told Action News Now that the family was on their way to a mission trip in Mexico when the car's tire blew. The tire flew off the rim, which dug into the road and flipped the car four times, she said.
